Mandate

Canada’s federal government founded the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer in 2007 to serve as steward of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control, tasked with facilitating efforts across the country to move the Strategy into action and improve cancer outcomes.

Our pan-Canadian, collaborative approach is focused on the long-term objectives of ensuring a future where fewer people in this country develop cancer, more survive it, those living with the disease have a better quality of life, and everyone has equitable access to high-quality cancer care. As an independent, federally funded organization, the Partnership is uniquely positioned to work across national, provincial and territorial lines to spark action, fuel innovation and forge connections that drive real and meaningful change for people with cancer and their families.

To help advance the eight priorities of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control, we work with Canada’s health and cancer community to address challenges across prevention and screening, diagnosis and clinical care through to palliative care and survivorship. The Partnership doesn’t deliver direct patient care but works alongside partners as they implement initiatives to improve cancer outcomes and ensure equity of access to quality cancer care for everyone in Canada. We share best practices and knowledge, and also contribute tools, funding, capacity and tailored support, to aid our partners in achieving their goals.

After more than 15 years of collective action, we are accelerating work that promotes improved access, experience and outcomes in cancer care with a focus on First Nations, Inuit and Métis, and equity-deserving populations. We continue to support our partners and the healthcare system to foster resilience to new and emerging challenges and implement effective and efficient models of care.
