The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (“the Partnership” or “CPAC”) has an exciting Board of Directors opportunity available. The Partnership is currently seeking a Director at Large from the Quebec region to join our Board of Directors for a three-year term (renewable to a maximum of nine years) starting in June 2025.

The Partnership’s Board of Directors bring regional, professional and personal perspectives to the Partnership’s work and help drive measurable change that will benefit all Canadians with cancer. The Board is made up of representatives from cancer and health organizations; federal, provincial and territorial government agencies and departments; Indigenous representatives; patient organizations; individuals and families affected by cancer; clinicians and healthcare providers; and researchers.

Who We Are

The Partnership is the steward of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control (“the Strategy”). We support partners across the country to advance the pan-Canadian priorities and actions set out in the Strategy. Together, we strive to ensure fewer people in Canada develop cancer; more people in Canada survive cancer; people in Canada affected by cancer have a better quality of life; and all people in Canada have equitable access to high-quality cancer care, no matter who they are or where they live.

The Partnership is a non-profit organization created by the federal government in 2006 to move the Strategy into action and receives ongoing funding from Health Canada to continue leading the Strategy with partners from across Canada. The Partnership’s Board of Directors plays a key role in overseeing the Partnership’s accountability to Canadians.

Working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis

The Partnership is firmly committed to working in a reconciliatory way. In doing so, we collaborate with Inuit, First Nations, and Métis communities and organizations across the country. This includes working directly towards advancing the three Peoples-specific priorities of the Strategy: culturally appropriate care closer to home; Peoples-specific, self-determined care; First Nations, Inuit, and Métis governed research and data systems. We value our relationships with Inuit, First Nations, and Métis governments, striving to ensure that we align ourselves to broader self-determined health priorities where possible.

Who You Are

The Partnership is seeking a collaborative, bilingual individual who resides in Quebec who will contribute their expertise and Quebec regional knowledge to further the goals of the Partnership. Ideally you would bring an understanding of Canada’s healthcare services or systems, public health, cancer research, or cancer control. Through your knowledge and understanding of the Quebec region you would share insights on cancer-related activities and impacts affecting your community. You have a strong respect and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Previous board experience and knowledge of board governance is considered an asset.

Board Member Responsibilities

The successful individual is expected to prepare and attend Board meetings (at least four meetings per year in cities across Canada) as well as participate on one of the committees reporting to the Board. Committee meetings are typically held virtually two weeks prior to Board meetings.

Submissions will be presented to the Governance and Nominating Committee of the Partnership’s Board for review. We thank all those who are interested; however, only those chosen for further consideration will be contacted.

The Committee is expected to make an appointment recommendation to the full Board for election by June 2025. Appointed Board Members will have their name and biography posted to the Partnership’s website and shared publicly.
