Dr. Margaret Fitch recognized for contribution to reducing the burden of cancer in Canada

The Partnership is pleased to congratulate Dr. Margaret Fitch, who recently received the Canadian Cancer Society’s 2011 Award for Excellence in Medicine and Health.
Currently Chair of the Partnership’s Cancer Journey Advisory Group, Dr. Fitch is Head of Oncology Nursing and Co-Director of the Patient and Family Support Program at the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
The Award for Excellence in Medicine and Health honours an outstanding contribution in assisting the Canadian Cancer Society to advance its mission to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of people living with cancer. One award for this category is presented each year.
For Dr. Fitch, this award recognizes her influence on cancer control during a career distinguished by leadership of collaborations in both research and practice. Her leadership in oncology nursing and work has resulted in better understanding of the needs of patients and families during the cancer journey and has influenced cancer control Canada-wide.
