Analyst, Prevention

Overview

The Cancer Systems and Innovation Division supports initiatives to improve equitable access, to better experiences and outcomes, and to advance reconciliation throughout Canada’s cancer system. The division enables system change with data, research, innovation, and modelling. Work of the division is primarily accomplished through partnerships across Canada to implement evidence-informed and co-developed solutions, encompassing everything from prevention and screening to diagnosis and clinical care through to palliative care and survivorship.

Overview of role

The Analyst, Prevention contributes to a highly motivated and innovative team to support implementation of cancer prevention priorities in Canada. Reporting to the Manager, Prevention, the incumbent leads the delivery of prevention program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, the incumbent will be responsible for working across Divisions and teams, as well as partners across the public health and cancer systems, ensuring work reflects commitments to reconciliation, Indigenous cultural competence, and addresses needs of equity-denied populations, with an overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer for all people in Canada.

Core responsibilities and activities

  • Supports the Manager to lead the planning, operations and implementation of pan-Canadian cancer prevention initiatives and projects in alignment with organizational priorities, including the Elimination of Cervical Cancer in Canada, smoking cessation, and broader cancer prevention and healthy public policy activities.
  • Leads analysis of evidence, on relevant cancer risk factors (e.g., commercial tobacco, human papillomavirus, alcohol, ultraviolet radiation, environmental and occupational carcinogens)
  • Leads, in collaboration with others, the development, implementation and evaluation of knowledge transfer and exchange activities related to cancer prevention and/or funded partner projects, including through webinars, knowledge products including web-based tools, publications, conferences and meetings.
  • Plans and executes in-person and/or virtual workshops and meetings related to cancer prevention
  • Works across divisions, departments, and teams at the Partnership, as well with external partners, to coordinate and execute on the implementation of the cancer prevention initiatives, including supporting funded partner projects and providing Secretariat support to committees and working groups.
  • Oversees the coordination of vendors, service providers, Committee and/or Working Group members, and external/internal partners to deliver on annual workplans.

General accountabilities

  • Works with internal and external partners, advisory groups, and vendors, in collaboration with others, to successfully achieve initiatives through all phases of planning and operations, including research, implementation, evaluation and reporting.
  • Acts as a source of substantive information regarding cancer prevention tracks current evidence; reports findings to internal and external partners for core areas of responsibility and ensures information is embedded as appropriate in the Partnership’s programs/projects/products.
  • Plans, organizes and chairs internal and external meetings.
    • Builds and maintains relationships with external vendors and partners and communicates regularly with key contacts and partners from various jurisdictions across Canada.
  • Prepares and presents content and/or represents the Prevention team at meetings, both internal and external, and/or conferences and other forums as directed.
  • Contributes to the overall Prevention portfolio and provides input and coverage in the absence of other team members, as required.
  • Provides support throughout the organization as required including other duties and ad hoc projects.
  • Occasional travel may be required throughout Canada.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience, preferably in the non-profit, public or health sectors.
  • Education or experience with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis and/or other equity-denied populations
    is an asset.
  • Experience working with governments and health authorities preferred, experience at the pan-Canadian level is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive) and
    virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, Mentimeter, etc)
  • Proficient in analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing data and evidence.
  • Proficient in critical appraisal of multiple sources of knowledge and integration of expert knowledge
    and advice into materials and products.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly
    changing environment.
  • Bilingual in both English and French is an asset.

Level 6 salary range: $80,624 - $109,080 per year; Compensation offered will be based on an assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, while ensuring internal equity.
